What's here significant was that Dipika Pallikal stopped the domination of the Egyptian players in the British junior open.
Dipika Pallikal swept aside all odds to topple the top seed and favourite Heba El Torky of Egypt to win the under-17 title in the British junior opens squash which ended at Sheffield.
The Indian player, who has been regularly playing in WISP and ranked 61 there, was seeded 5/8. Playing with assurance and matching her rival in strokes, the Indian made it a big day for herself and the squash fraternity in the country.
Dipika won 9-6, 5-9, 9-6, 1-9, 9-5. In winning she emulated Joshna Chinappa, the current national champion.
Dipika now returns home to be ready for the trials in connection with the Senior Asian squash championship scheduled in Kuwait in February.
After the trials Dipika, who is included in the Mittal Champions Trust, will be moving over to Egypt to continue her training. In all probability current national coach Amir Wagih will be coaching her.
